It's Over, and Beginning

The holidays are over. Christmas and New Years were good for all of us, we have our health, love, and a few neat presents. Once again, it's sad to be away from my side of the family - there's a huge group in Indiana that I miss, and that I wish could see more of Galen. But my life has seemed to work out that way. After high school I entered the Air Force and that pretty much finished my residence in the Hoosier state and started my travels. There have been years that I could return, but many that I couldn't.

My mom visited in November for Galen's birthday. She worked and worked on getting him to walk. Mostly he succeeded in walking with assistance, but never more than a step or two on his own. Since her visit he's continued that standing and step or two, sometimes adding a third. But this last week, all that changed. During the week between Christmas & New Years he started adding more steps. The first day, he went about eight feet, the next, a few more. By New Years Eve he was wondering the house in a drunken stupor, laughing, giggling, sometimes in walking in circles. He's got it now. It's still tenuous, carpet and things on the floor trip him up, but he's got it. You can see it, he's proud and happy. It's a new beginning, fitting for New Years.
