Goodbye Scotty

James (not a Scot) Doohan, who played Scotty on Star Trek, has left us on the anniversary of man's first steps on the moon. Neil Armstrong may have said "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" but it was Scotty that got the warp drive, transporter, and shields to protect the Enterprise & crew from certain destruction. Real people, like James, played fictional characters, like Montgomery Scott, that helped ignite and sustain our imaginations. And that helped to develop real heroes, like Neil, in our quest to visit outer space.

We need more of both. Thanks James.

Lee,

Are you suggesting that a TV series that was canceled after 3 years played a critical role in the development of the Apollo 11 astronauts and the first humans on the face of the moon in the American psyche? Absent which we would remember Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin in the same way we think about bad folk music and Twiggy?

Interesting.......

I'll bring over some beer.

Mike
