Dread, anxiety, fear, and apprehension

It started around 2 PM. I was feeding a bottle to Liam, watching the news, when it hit me. I laid Galen down for his nap wearing underwear, not a diaper. NO DIAPER!!!

I gotta say, through Tuesday & Wednesday Galen has shown great potty-training progress. He can make it though preschool without an accident. He can make it through an afternoon at home without an accident. But after only a few days I have never never attempted a nap without switching over to a diaper, he's just not ready. This could end in one of three ways, two of which are quite benign.

I did not get "benign."

The parents reading this don't need a graphic description. But if there is anyone that doesn't understand:
  1. Place into a blender some hamburger, applesauce, carrots, and food coloring,
  2. puree,
  3. get a cotton handkerchief from your closet or dresser,
  4. pour the puree into the handkerchief and form a ball,
  5. squeeze.
Use your imagination for the odor that the simulation is lacking, maybe something from your last trip to a port-o-potty that hadn't been cleaned in a few days.

Did I ever mention that after eleven years my wife still doesn't let me do laundry?

Cold

Right before I went to bed last night I checked the thermometer, 9.6 below zero.

This morning, 14.8 below zero.

Reminded me of a snowmobiling trip to Wausau... Not sure of that's the kind of story Liam-n-Galen need to hear for a few decades.

Almost a Hillbilly

Shanna noticed Liam's first tooth this morning at breakfast. I got to see it coated with barley cereal. He hasn't been particularly grouchy or grumpy, his appetite has been mostly normal. Hopefully the remainder of teeth will show up with as little fanfare.

Now if I can get him to sit still with an open mouth long enough to get a photo...

Off He Goes

Galen left the house this morning for his first day of preschool. Liam and I have no plans, other than to get his brother later today.

It's quiet around here.

Another Phase of Life

Galen starts another phases of life Monday - he's starting preschool. From then on, Monday through Friday, 7:30 to 11:30 he'll get the structured play of City Montessori. Socialization with a bunch of kids, new ways of learning, and maybe, just maybe, peer pressure to finally get him potty trained!!

What will Liam and I do? We'll see.
