Life Goes On

Galen doesn't really understand it all, but he does say Natasha is sad with Rocky gone. Once or twice he said he missed Rocky, but I wonder. I know I miss him.

Galen & Liam have diapers to change. There's breakfast, lunch, and dinner to be made, eaten, and cleaned up. Bills have to be paid, shopping to be done, floors to mop.

Life goes on.

Rocky died last night

Last night, as I was sitting in our easy chair, Rocky walked over and curled up next to me. Ten minutes later he stretched out his head, sighed, and passed away. After eight wondrous years, he is gone, taken by canine cancer.

He was a gentle, stoic, loving, strong and protective friend. He trudged through swamps and rivers, conquered mountains, and endured hours bouncing around the back end of our truck. He never complained, except to get to my food or beer. He was happy to do anything if just to be with his pack. He kept the monsters at bay.

My memories shall keep his spirit, the look of that handsome face and playful swagger.

Our pack is diminished. I feel hollow. Lost. Cheerless. My friend Rocky is gone, never to walk beside me again.

Good bye.

I Looked Into the Mouth of the Beast

And saw black. I looks like his teeth have black spots here and there, I have waited wayyy to long to get him to the dentist. Maybe it was food stuck in crevices, I hope so. This morning I printed out a list of Delta Dental dentists within a ten mile radius. Time to get Galen his first dental check.

Liam is no longer stationary, he rolls all over the place. I can't tell if it's specifically directional or just the pure joy of rolling. But it is fun to watch. He'll pull those legs up, lean, and roll right over. He does seem to track Galen, he'll crane his head-n-neck around to see what his big brother is doing.

What happened??

Today started with such promise. Galen ate most of his breakfast, played with his stuff and let me read the paper, and was mostly attentive when talking with Shanna over the phone.

Then something collided with the morning's promise.

Daddy, play with me.
OK.
Build a castle.
Pass the blocks please.
My blocks, use that one (a single red triangle).
Honey, it takes more than one to build a castle, share those with me.
No, my blocks.
Honey, we need to share blocks to build a castle.
Nooooo, whaaaaa, my blocks, sniffle, sniffle, huff, huff...

And it was a fast and furious ride to a 7:30 AM meltdown, not my favorite way to start the day.

An hour later it's almost as if nothing has happened. The blocks are gone, but he has moved on to drawing. I even got a tooth brushing in. Liam's fed and rolling on the floor. The dogs are hoovering, waiting for drool to happen. Maybe the day has promise after all.
